The Young Leaders Programme has been providing young people with the opportunities to learn new skills and actively take part in volunteering in the community and beyond. Our aim is to develop the personal and social growth of young people through experiential learning so that they can become Young leaders in every aspect of their lives. Our programme offers a wide range of short courses and volunteer opportunities.
It has been positively commented on by Ofsted and has received good reviews from Lewisham Youth service.
"They demonstrated tolerance, respect and understanding for others and grew considerably in confidence and self-awareness. Many felt able to consider future education and career options well beyond their previous aspirations as a result of their involvement in the project and through their knowledge of what previous participants in the programme had achieved".
(Lewisham Ofsted Inspection report September/October 2001)
This is what some young people had to say about the programme:
Community Sports Leaders Award - "I enjoyed the C.S.L.A the most because, I met a lot of people and I had fun learning about sports" - Lance Prime
Volunteering - "I attended an event called Urban Youth and I was responsible for the wall of words where people write their thoughts and feelings about stuff" - Lance Prime
Introduction to Youth Work - "I learnt a lot on this course and about myself" - Colleen Cousins
Employment Opportunities - "I have always enjoyed swimming and this course helped me to gain a place working with children on a camp in New Jersey this summer!" - Hollie Jade Cheal
